The Meetings Committee is responsible for what happens at the club’s weekly luncheon, including the following:
The program committee has a very important goal--to provide an entertaining, diverse, educational and/or otherwise topical program each week throughout the year. That means, approximately 40 weeks a year the club demands peak performance from this committee. Making this committee work requires planning, preparation and a penchant for uncovering great speakers, whether by word-of-mouth or actual encounters.
Committee members also must have the courage to approach a qualified speaker and ask them to speak at the Rotary meeting for “glory and not gain.” Because Rotary is a club dedicated to service and most of the club’s dollars are used for charitable purposes, neither fees nor stipends are paid to speakers.
In every poll of the RCD club members, the quality of speakers is at the top of the list in importance. It is an element that attracts new members, retains members and keeps members coming to meetings. The ongoing importance of the Program Committee cannot be underestimated. Fresh ideas are crucial to the health and well being of this committee and, to a greater extent, the club itself.
What would the weekly luncheon be without an occasional song, an inspirational moment and a pledge? Members of this committee have the fun job of leading a song and, when possible, providing musical accompaniment. Any member, who plays an instrument or likes to sing please apply.
Because the Rotary Club of Denver is so large and formidable, the Hospitality Committee was established to welcome members, visitors and guests and to help them feel comfortable, at the weekly luncheon meetings. Committee members are available to act as ambassadors to new members to help guide them through the process of getting acquainted. This committee also helps to get information to the secretary for introductions. Committee members may be asked to assist in other ways, such as placing handouts at the tables, taking attendance, clean up after the meeting. Members also help with the registration table or other special events occurring at the weekly meeting.
The inspirational moment is a time every week to reflect on each individual’s understanding of a higher power, one’s relationship to the world around or a moment to settle busy thoughts and claim some inner peace.
The committee’s job is to either present the inspirational moment or assign another member to make the offering. It can be presented as a prayer, a poem, a seasonal rendition, or a timely thought for the day. It is a presentation that has, traditionally, been part of the weekly meeting format since the club’s inception.
With the assistance of the Rotary Office, this committee is responsible for preparing and organizing three to four Fellowship Meetings throughout the year. These meetings are intended to promote fellowship among Rotarians by meeting in smaller groups, held at Rotarians’ place of work. These special meetings allow members the opportunity to see other businesses and to participate in a more suitable forum to discuss the club’s goals and opportunities.
Members of this committee work with the CEBA organization to get the RCD membership to this event. The luncheon takes the place of one of the Club’s regular weekly meetings. Committee members work with the office to coordinate PR, reservations, and follow-up.
