President, Regis University

"What Regis and Rotary Have in Common, 'Service Above Self'"

Fr. Sheeran was elected as the 23rd President of Regis University, beginning January 1993, after having served as Vice President for Academic Affairs since 1982. He became Dean of Regis College in 1977 after appointments as Assistant Academic Dean (1976-77) and Director of Student Academic Services (1975-76). He entered the Society of Jesus in 1957 and was ordained in 1970. He holds A.B. (Philosophy and Letters), Ph.L., A.M. (Political Science), A.M. (Theology), and STL Degrees from St. Louis University. In 1977, he received the Ph.D. in Politics from Princeton University.

Fr. Sheeran has taught at Regis Jesuit High School, Regis University, and St. Louis University. He is the author of numerous articles, editorials and book reviews and has edited several national and local periodi­cals, including America and Catholic Mind. His book, Beyond Majority Rule - a study of Quakerism - is used by Quakers to teach new members their distinctive decision-making process.

Fr. Sheeran serves as a Trustee on the University of San Francisco Board, and also is a board member of the Association of Catholic Colleges & Universities, Colorado Campus Compact and the St. John Vianney Seminary. In addition he serves on the Community College of Aurora Advisory Board and the Regis Jesuit High School Board of Trustees.

Fr. Sheeran is former Chairman of Denver’s Mile High United Way, and a former Trustee of the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design, Rockhurst University, Creighton University, and Loyola University of New Orleans. He is a former member of the American Council on Education's Commission on Educational Credit and Credentials, the National Campus Compact Board and the Board of the Colorado Institute of Technology.
