YOUTH SERVICES COMMITTEE - Tim Sheahan, Chair 

This committee is the umbrella for all the subcommittees in the club that work with children, youth ad young adults. Within these 9 committees there are a wide variety of volunteer opportunities. For more information on each program, click on the underlined title of the program.

SCHOOL PROGRAMS

DENVER CENTER FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDIES
As part of RI's 2005 Centennial project, Denver Rotary committed itself to establish a long-term support relationship with a Denver Public School.  DCIS is a world-class school focused on international and intercultural affairs, serving middle and high school students.  The Committee provides both resources, financial and human, to the students, faculty and staff.   The Interact Club is a Rotary sponsored service club for students age 14-18.

CHILDHOOD LITERACY
Promotes literacy in the Denver Public School system through the use of a volunteer tutor spending one hour a week, one-on-one with an elementary school student, helping him or her with reading skills.

COMMUNITY RESOURCES - YOUTH MENTORING
Provides high achieving at-risk students in grades 4 - 8 with a career dream or area of passion are matched with accomplished community volunteers (Rotarians) for a short-term academic/career experience. Volunteers are also needed classroom speakers, family night readers, family night math assistants and science fair judges.

YOUTH EXCHANGE
Provides international students of high school age and local area youth the opportunity to participate in educational exchanges around the world. 

SCHOLASTIC ART AND WRITING AWARDS COLORADO
Provides talented students with an opportunity to exhibit their work, be judged against their Colorado peers, and to compete against peers on a national level. 

SCHOLARSHIPS AND LEADERSHIP CAMPS 

SHINING STARS
Assists the Shining Stars Foundation in providing sport, recreation, and outreach programs for children with cancer and life-threatening diseases at no cost to them or their families.

UBD Bank HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIPS

COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS
Provides counseling and identifies financial resources for students with financial needs and above-average grade point averages who are pursuing a college education. 

ROTARY YOUTH LEADERSHIP AWARD
Is a leadership camp for junior and senior high school students that is conducted at the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park. Volunteers are needed to interview and select students, provide transportation to and from camp, participate in camp activities and to teach the various workshops at camp. 

VOCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS
Assists high school students who are interested in attending a particular vocation program.
